Bullying is not funny. It is not cool. It is not right. And more importantly, it is not okay.
Most of us are, thankfully, residents of countries that support tolerance and many of our families have settled in these places simply for that reason. Generations later, it is our responsibility to perpetuate that message of tolerance across our new social platforms, including the internet.
As members of the nail polish blogging community, we all share a love of beauty, color, and lacquer. Other than that, we are remarkably different: from our race to our religion to our hair color...even to our polish application techniques. To marginalize anyone because of those differences is completely unacceptable and today I take a stand against that. I refuse to allow other people's view of "normal" dictate how I behave, believe, and blog.

Today, November 9th, I dedicate my post to ending bullying of any kind and to encouraging diversity and imperfection among our colorful community.

Bullying is an epidemic in today's society, and it does not just happen to children or in a school setting. With technology being a large part of our every day lives, there is now a new form of bullying called "cyberbullying." Cyberbullying can occur via Facebook, text messages, blogs, emails, instant messages, and many other avenues.
Why is this important? Bullying (as a whole) has been linked to low self-esteem, substance abuse, depression, and suicide to name a few things.
Sadly, we have been seeing cyberbullying within our own nail polish blogger community. It seems that many bloggers have divided and some choose to pick on others. In the past it has been due to "improper" cuticle care, cleaning up after manicures, nail art that may not be quite as good as others, and various other "issues."
We need to STOP this immediately. Words hurt. There is no reason for grown women to be acting like this and hurting each other. If you do not like someone, or their blog, then simply do not speak to them. You are allowed to disagree with someone or something, but there is no need to go out of your way to hurt that person.

ReplyDeleteIf your nature desires competition, then set the bar that much higher for yourself and aim for it. Woman-up and extend a helping hand to other women. Help them through positive action and encouragement to achieve their goals instead of judging or trying to make yourself elite. That doesn't make you classy, that just makes you an a$$hole.
